So……picture me sitting at a kitchen table in a plaid shirt
with a cup of warm cocoa speaking:
“My son and I were repairing the wheelchair ramp at the
church today and my son said to me “Father, I’m concerned about how I can
afford a new detached home in a new sub-division and I’m also worried
about how when I have children how I can be sure they get enough ice time to
make the travel team, and (in a whisper) what if I can’t afford hockey or they
don’t want to play?” I chuckled and said “son the only thing you need to worry
about is getting a good finish on that concrete. When I get elected for
Municipal Council I have a plan that will solve all of that. Except if your kid
doesn’t like hockey, then you will have to live somewhere else. ”
Ok seriously, we did fix the ramp, but I was supposed to do
it for a year now. Otherwise, a new detached home is not a reality for a lot of
young families today. I don’t have a perfect solution. Would I prefer a
new home for every young family? Of course. Do I like medium and high density
housing? No. That’s what affordable housing is going to look like in the near
term. In addition, it doesn’t gobble up farm land at the rate detached homes
do. That’s reality.
So to fix that we better attract some industry to the Heron
Business Park. As for Hockey, yeah some parents can’t afford to put their kids
in hockey let alone the gas to truck them around the province. AND some kids
have other interests besides hockey. So what we DO have is the
Recreation, Parks and trails Master Plan. It’s a 10 year plan for,
well, Parks and Recreation. If you can afford it, and your kids want to play,
hockey is in there. Parks and a ton of other great ideas are in there. If you
want take a look.
The sitting council is behind its development. They did a
good job. We have a good council and I want to contribute. Do I have all the
answers? Nope. Do I have a lifetime of personal and business experience that I
can use to contribute? I do. Please consider voting for me for Mitchell Ward.
