Traffic Discussion

Good morning: I watched the video of the sitting council discuss traffic on lines 32 & 36.  It is a complex issue discussion covers emotional vs desktop data, admittedly no official traffic study as of yet. . It is quite interesting the issue is balancing traffic safety, traffic flow and the needs of rural and urban users.

Challenges are speed limits, 4 ways stops -adding or removing them, quite interesting discussion and worth watching. The complexities involve motor vehicle traffic, why 4 way stops could calm traffic and reduce speeding, however transport trucks that need to reach farms and elevators increases difficulty and safety risks. Sending them back to Highway 8 also makes it challenging routing farm and transport traffic through the town of Mitchell.

Also discussion was on using Road 160 and 168 like ring roads around Mitchell adding 4 way stops similar to the one on the corner of 160 and line 32 on 3 additional corners. This would require the paving road 168 to complete the ‘ring’.  The difficulties with the geography of 168 would make it very extremely costly to make safer for heavy traffic.

A delegation had asked to be added to the agenda and was present and gave interesting information on the perspective of rural life on Line 36. The council was engaged and asked questions as they should.

There were no decisions made on anything, the council agreed that a public meeting to get feedback is necessary.

This is a very brief summary but it is interesting how the council faces challenges to suit the needs of the public, I found the discussion interesting. I encourage you to watch it starts around 1 hour & 6 minutes into the video.  I also encourage you to get involved educate yourself and attend the public meeting when the time comes!

Cheers!
